Westway Boxing Club in Scarborough is set to undergo a significant transformation, thanks to a substantial £700,000 funding injection. This expansion project, which has already received support from Broadland Properties, will see the club double its capacity with a main training hall, full-sized boxing ring, and additional gym space. The North Yorkshire Council's backing of the remaining funds marks a pivotal moment for grassroots sport in the area, according to Councillor Heather Phillips, who emphasized the club's role in fostering a positive and inspiring environment for the community.
Ryan Ashworth, a boxing coach and long-time member, expressed enthusiasm for the expansion, highlighting its potential to strengthen the club's future and support for vulnerable adults and young people. He believes this investment will provide a safe space for personal growth and skill development, catering to a diverse age range of members.
The plans include modern amenities such as new changing rooms, toilets, a cafe, classrooms, and storage spaces, reflecting the club's commitment to enhancing its facilities and community impact.
