Exciting news for horse racing enthusiasts! The first foals of the highly anticipated stallions Auguste Rodin and City of Troy have arrived, marking a significant moment in the world of thoroughbred breeding.
On January 12th, the first foals by these two exceptional racehorses were born. A bay filly, sired by Auguste Rodin, was born to the Le Havre mare Only In Dreams at Haras de Pierrepont. Later that day, a bay colt by City Of Troy was born to Ritournelle, a listed-winning 2-year-old mare, at Coolmore.
Eddie Fitzpatrick of Coolmore shared his excitement, stating, "He’s a very good first foal. A quality colt with scope and strength; a great start for both the mare and the stallion."
Auguste Rodin, a champion at 2 and 3 years old, boasts an impressive racing resume. He secured victories in the Futurity Trophy (G1), the Epsom Derby (G1), the Irish Champion Stakes (G1), the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T), and the Prince of Wales's Stakes (G1). His lineage includes the legendary Deep Impact and the top-class Galileomare Rhododendron, a sister to the brilliant Magical.
City of Troy, an undefeated champion at 2 years old, is another standout. After a setback at the Two Thousand Guineas (G1), he bounced back to win the Derby, Eclipse (G1), and the Juddmonte International Stakes (G1), where he triumphed over Calandagan. His pedigree features Justify and the group 1-winning Galileo mare Together Forever.
But here's where it gets interesting... These foals represent the future of racing, carrying the genes of champions. What potential do these young horses hold?
And this is the part most people miss... The success of these foals will depend not only on their inherited traits but also on their training and care. The pressure is on to see if they can live up to their lineage.
